Simon is the youngest member of the group.
He owns and operates Huntington Engineering and this is where the
group's activities are based. All the equipment needed is available,
including gear a gear cutter. Simon did his apprentiship at Mitsubishi
and stayed for 11 1/2 years, followed by 2 years tool making at Clipsal
before launching out on his own.
He has a wide range of additional skills including blacksmithing, welding, machining and fitting and has picked up a Workskill Australia award. He is the brains behind the Allchin project guiding the other members of the group. One day he hopes to go to a 12" traction engine! |
After working for many years as a
cartographer and then as general engineer and fix it man for a civil
engineer Dean decided to retire to the country and pursue his hobbies.
However he first decided to build an underground (or earth-covered)
house making everything from scratch. (sounds like a model engineer)
The finished house will have a large workshop included thus giving an
ideal working climate all year round to restore old cars and engines
and build traction engines. Dean has previously built and flown model
gliders and this is his first steam project.

Ralph is enjoying retirement from managing
mines, schools and Christian mission groups. Along the way he did pick
up a licence to drive an underground locomotive, inherited a live steam
“Bing” locomotive, and bought some Stuart Turner stationary
steam engines. At about 10, he built a treacle tin turbine (with
built-in safety valve!). The 3” Allchin is his first serious
attempt at modelling
|
Trevor started his Allchin project in 1989
but due to family and work commitments (and moving house), he put the
project on hold. When the goup was formed he resurected his project. He
has a background as toolmaker and drafstman at Mitsubishi Motors engine
plant, Lonsdale SA. He also has vast experience in pattern making.Since
the engine plant closed he has been working as a contract fitter. He is
a keen modeller of stationary engines.
